polaris pxt tire specs

this was asked about in another thread so here are the facts. i checked into this today talking to the tire wholesalers and tire companys we use.first off what the china company maxxis has on there web page is WRONG,no surprise to me as this is a english system.
the old english size and load rating system uses inches for size and a star system for load rating. the star designation is also related to max tire psi. 2 stars means max psi at 5 and 3 stars is max psi of 7. the stars are all about the load rating and nothing to do with how many plys the tire has.

the pxt or act, same tire is a 3 ply tire unless you have the act HD which is a 6 ply but this tire was not used from the factory on the polaris quad.

That's true, but if you would dig a little deeper you will find that 1 star equals 4psi and 2 plys, 2 stars equals 5psi and 4 plys , and 3 stars equals 7psi and 6 plys. My Pitbull Rockers has stamped on them "4 star 8 ply rating", explain that one. They're made in the USA.

you do not get it,the maxxis tire is a copy of the carlisle terrathon which also has 3 stars on the sidewall and is a 2 ply tire. the stars have nothing to do with ply only load rating. the guys at the carlisle company know all about the maxxis page and get a good laugh out of it.

The PXT or ACT, same tire is a 3 ply tire unless you have the ACT HD which is a 6 ply but this tire was not used from the factory on the Polaris quad.

Now that I read this, I did read of a HD version mentioned. Mine are the stock Polaris PXT tires.
They are also labled as being rated for "7psi MAX" and have three stars after the size designation.

Well, I don't know about this star rating and other stuff. I can tell you this, at my buddies shop, I see (and feel) a lot these tires. If those "3 star" rated tires supposed to be 6 ply rated, they are the weakest, cheapest, softest 6 ply tires I've ever seen. That includes some of the 3 star rated tires made by Carlisle. I believe very little of what the manufacturers say, or stamp on a tire anyway... especially the Chinese manufacturers.

SNW629...For those of us who tend to believe the information put out by tire companies, it would be nice if you would contact those companies (Maxxis for one), and tell them that they are putting out false information. We shouldn't have to bicker back and forth because of their false information. Does anybody disagree?
