Wheel Weights & Offsets

Does anyone know how heavy the standard Sportsman 12x6 & 12x8 sportsman wheels are? I'm trying to compare the factory wheel weight against aluminum aftermarket wheels.

I am also looking to install 26x11 Tires in the front on 12x7" wheels. I am wondering if I can get away with 5+2 off set or would i have to go to 4+3 offset? I know the factory wheels in front are 12x6 with a 5+1 offset, so I was hoping the extra 1" of B.S would clear 11" wide tires but possibly not...

I imagine that a 4+3 offset would be hard on the wheel bearings?

I havn't gotten any hits on these two questions so I re-worded what I am looking for in my original post.

By what I've been told the Factory wheels 12x8 are 10lbs, and 12x7 are 8Lbs. Factory cast Polaris Wheels weigh as much if not more.

I think your going to find that to install wide tires on the front you will have to use fairly wide spacers. At least 1 1/2 to 2".

To what end? I mean why the questions...

ANY wider tire than stock will exert more stress on the suspension. ANY difference in offset will do the same... BUT don't get all caught up in so called "problems" that may or may not ever be a problem. Countless numbers have installed and run wider tires with less back spaced rims with no problems...

Look at it this way.. riding in allot of mud is FAR more damaging to the machine. Aggressive riding can exacerbate the problems.

Back to my first question.. what are you wanting to do or get to...

Here is my reasoning behind looking for a wide front & rear Tire Combo:

1. I am a trail rider, but being way up in Northern Ontario our spring/summer/fall trail riding are on marked OFSC Snowmobile Trails. Unlike ATV trails we are subjected to alot of muskeg, swamps and black muck. But 50% of the trails are awesome with hard packed ground.
2. Because I do trail riding & Road use I can't move up to a tire such as the silver back or Outlaw, Mudzilla. I am also looking at a Radial Tire that needs to do well in the Snow.
3. Since I can't make up for my needs in Tread design I need to gain flotation in other forms and the large front tires came to mind.

I just question how this will effect ride, and steering. My tire of choice is the Maxxis Big Horn Radial if that helps. I'm alos wondering what effect this will have on wheel bearings, axles..etc..

I'm just looking for feedback...

As you can see, I use the Bighorns s/w on my bike. Last winter I used it to plow a lot of snow. And ride quite a bit. No problems what so ever!

I appreciate the feedback. Do you know what offset your wheels are? and if you needed to run spacers on the front?

Also do you have any pictures, I'm willing to bet that looks pretty effin good!
