Do I need different lug nuts for Aluminum rims

I just purchased a set of Aluminum rims for my 09 Sportsman 500 to replace the stock steel rims. Do I need different lug nuts and or spacer for the aluminum rims? Any help is greatly appreciated. Ken

Welcome to the forum!! Yes you will need new lug nuts! ITP makes'em. Use them for my STI wheels. Depends on tire size as far as spacers go. Test fit the tires on the bike & see if theres clearance @ the tie rod ends. Your gonna want @ least 1/2" clearance. 1" is better!!!

I thank you for the reply. That was what I suspected, looks like I may need a tapered lug. I've got them on the ATV and they look good but the steel lug nuts just didn't feel quite right.

Inhambone,

My understanding from reading a few dozen threads on this forum. You may need to change the studs also. Seems they use a longer stud for the aluminum wheels. Hey new studs and nuts for the way new wheels will look, that's just a small price to have to pay...hehehe
