Post Maxxis Poll 26" Big Horn vs 28" Zilla

I created a Poll to see who would choose which?

I'm going with 11" wide on all 4 corners to help with flotation on this heavy SP800. I'm going to a 14" Wheel to help with handling and generally give it a much updated/newer look.

Big Horn Originals in this size are approx. 27lbs.
Zilla in this size are 26lbs.

The 28" Zilla's run true to size in the 28" size. The Big Horns run nearly 1" taller in the 26" version.

This Tire must be capable of doing Pavement, Trail, Gravel, Snow Plowing, Mud/Muskeg....

I personally think the Big Horn's look much better and beat the Zilla in all but 1 thing Mud/Muskeg. The trails I run have some nasty stuff but I'm not always running in the nasty stuff.

No matter the Tire I will install the Corresponding QSC Mud Pro Clutch kit to go with it.

Also has anyone ran 14x8" ITP's 212 on the front?

I think you are right on the money with your assesment of the two tires. I would think steering would be a little tough on pavement with the wide fronts.

no the 28x14 zilla is not true to size, had them, the are 26.5 on the quad with 4 psi in them. they are a soft rubber compound and wear fast on pavement. good for mud, weak 2 ply sidewall.

Well thank you Sir! Someone said they measured 28" with 7 psi.

I do beleive it will be harder to turn on pavement, but I think the added flotation will really benefit me when I run into the muddy stuff. I'm also thinking the 14" wheels will firm up the steering responce. I hope anyway

I have Bighorns on my bike, which for where I ride are what I need.

In your case, I think the Zilla would work better in the skeg. Otherwise, the Bighorn will work better in all you listed except the skeg.

Good luck with your choice and of course we need pics!!

I think SNW629 had the tires you need... GBC Spartacus. You can tell that they will be better in mud than Big Horns... just look at the tread design. Maybe not "dedicated" mud tires, but better than Horns for mud. They should be excellent trail tries for the other conditions you encounter. Maybe SNW629 can elaborate.

^ Appreciate the input. I think the killer for me was the Sparticus/Grim Reaper Weight. 31Lbs a tire, but they are 8 Ply. I'll consider these tires.

even at 7psi the zilla is not 28" and they ride like crap with 7psi on hard trails. indy you are asking a lot from 1 tire.when i rode all those types of trials i had 2 sets of tires, the 28x14 zilla for mud and the 26x14 horns for trails. i do like radials, the spartacus, pitbul growler and outlaw radial will all work for your needs. great radials do not come cheap if that matters.wish i had taken the camera saturday when my atv club did are dice run, with water and mud above the boards at times the spartacus was kickin ass and taken names.

If it wouldn't be too much to ask, would you be able to take some pictures of the tires on your machine? I can't seem to find any good pictures of them installed on a 14" wheel. I'd greatly appreciate it.
