Need help with tires
I have a bone stock 2010 850 XP and want to get some better tires. I have the black steel factory rims and would like to actually keep those. If I can go up to a slightly bigger tire (27 - 27.5) I'd like to, but I don't want to have to put spacers on so I'm not sure if this will all be possible. My riding is basically trails with rock, dirt, and a few shallow mud holes. Would like to get these in the next couple of weeks and head over to Hatfields in WV.
The tires I've had my eye on are the GBC Grim Reapers, GBC Spartacus, and the Pitbull Rocker XOR. I want something aggressive, and to be honest with you I like the look of all three of these tires. I know how a tire looks doesn't really mean how it will do, but it does matter to me. I like the big lug aggressive looking type tires, makes the bike look a little meaner.
Just out of curiosity if I need a different wheel to go up to the 27 - 27.5 tires what would you recommend? Is there a certain off set I should get?
Thanks guys

Most tire manufacturers have guides online which point out the strengths of each of their offerings. This may be the best route to follow. As far as the look of the tread, I have similar thoughts about the look of tires. My stock tires, albeit adequate, look like they were taken off a little girl's quad. Kinda takes away from the overall look. I have seen some tires that look ridiculously aggressive and I have wondered if they actually help. Those who own them seem to think so. Are they bulls**tting me to save face after getting hosed, or are they really that awesome? Only they will ever know. In my opinion, I can't see how a more aggressive tire wouldn't be better off road. Seriously....

Good thoughts, sgtpatiolantern
I poured over these archives when i concluded I needed new tires to take on H-M Rockhouse. and the looks are as important as the performance. I opted for the wider/flatter/blockier look of the Bighorn 2.0's (went with the 26"), and it immediately changed the personality/appearance of my '05 500SP HO. The wide lugs grip VERY well on all surfaces without tearing up the trail, and I got very positive comments on how well they looked on the machine. Many other riders @ H-M were using the Grim Reapers, and appeared to be satisfied customers as well.
I don't think SELYPB can go wrong on any of his tire candidates. You'll find strong support for most brands here, and he already knows what he wants his machine to look like.

The '09's had trouble clearing the swaybar with wider tires like my 27x11's so I had to use spacer's in the rear. On your '10 they had a different swaybar so I think you should be OK with a 27x11 on the stock wheel's. I'd test fit one if possible to make sure.

You should be OK on the 2010 as they did move the sway bar.
You have picked 3 excellent tires. They are all 8 ply rated radial tires. They ride very comfortable and give awesome traction. Keep in mind the PitBull tires run 1/2 inch taller than the size indicates.
If you ride more mud I would go with the PitBull Growler's or the GBC Spartacus as this is what they are designed for.
Give us a call is we can help. Our number is 1-888-459-4080.

Tire Size
I have an '09 and am aware of the issue with the sway bar. I was hoping to go with a different rim to fix this issue and put on a set of 27x11, but I have been told if you go up to a 27 I can loose quite a bit of power and should do some adjusting on the clutches? Is this correct? Is there athing on the bike that will need to be changed if I go up to 27?...........Thanks!

What are you riding, other than an '09? 550, 850? If it is an 850 it will turn the 27's just fine with no clutch work.
I just saw on another thread that you have an 850. You will be fine with 27's.
