Another wheel and tire package question..
Hi guys
I'm new to the board and just recently purchased a Sportsman 800 EFI from my local dealer and have been eye balling some new wheels and tires ever since I picked up the machine. I've finally decided that I want 27inch Swamp lites and 14inch STI C7 machine wheels.
Interco Swamp-Lite Kit
Now my question is can I fit 27s with the new wheels without modification to my bike as in having to use wheel spacers or will the new wheels take care of the offset? Also would I need to worry about getting a clutch kit to run this size tire? Thanks in advance! -Eddie
(anyone want to buy some OEM wheels and tires? haha )

Just personal preference. I just like the look of a 14 on a 27 + inch tire.

I like the way you think!
You have probably seen some pictures of 14" wheels on the full size Polaris. They do make an impression. I like the idea of a shorter sidewall to achieve the 27" tire diameter. It all starts to look a little like a hot wheels model but you add ground clearance without modifying the suspension. Backspacing is one thing but tire width trumps that when it comes to suspension component interference.
My intention is to find a dealer with a tech support phone number. I'll decide on the wheel and tire style combination and call them to qualify the fitment. This is my suggestion to you as well.

Thats a good idea.
I think I may call my dealer or mud throwers and ask them a few questions about the wheels and tires I described and see what they say.

So I've changed my mind yet again, I'm going to go with some 14" MSA M12 wheels and stay with the swamp lites. Now all I'm really wondering is if I'm going to need wheel spacers for the front 2 wheels since the the tires in the front will be 27-9-14, thats an extra inch of width on the tire size compared to the stock tires.

You can take a careful look at the clearance that you have now and determine if there is another half inch to spare; keeping in mind the rim of the wheel will extend upward an additional inch. However, if you do investigate by calling your dealer or seller, ask what the 4+3 back spacing actually means. Then, please post that information here.

Here is how to read backspacing. The tires will fit fine with the right backspace.

This is great! I hope the moderator sticks this here and it finds its way to becoming a FAQ answer.
It is different than the way automotive back spacing is defined.
