Ply Rating

I have a new 550 x2 trying to find out what ply tire it has. The tire is the Maxxis m9805 front and m9806 rear 14in. Thanks for the help.

According to the Maxxis website, look on the side of the tire, if there are any stars- each star = 2 ply. 1 star = 2 ply. 2 stars = 4 ply. Etc.

Just punch a hole in the side and count how many layers you have.....kidding!

As mentioned above, should have starts on the tire somewhere. My guess....they're OEM, they're 2 ply. Let us know what you find.

I've got the same wheeler. Same tires. 3 stars. So if the star-ply ratio mentioned is accurate, they would be 6 ply tires.
I'm pretty impressed that they would put 6 ply stock... Or is that normal?

I believe there the same ones as on my 850 and I think the proper rating is "JUNK"! IMO I think there 2 or 3 ply really but I agree with Blueline15, " Poke a hole in side" of all 4 and buy new, stronger, better and faster tires!

I checked last night they have 3 stars so that would make them 6 ply.

Just ride em until you decide that you don't like them, then buy a set that matches your riding style.
