6ply vs 8ply on 14" wheels
There has been alot of talk about ply ratings on 14 inch wheels and side wall flex. I personally believe that unless you ride nothing but rocks and creek beds do you really need 8 ply tires. I have read so many articles about sidewall flex, or lack of, with 8 ply tires and I wonder if its really needed. I bought a set of 8 ply radials that you had to run 2 pounds of air max and ride quality was less than great. Im really thinkin that I need a set of 6 ply for my 14" rims. Mind you Im not ridin just mud , rocks or any ONE thing. I need and all-around tough tire that does well in most all conditions! Take probably 3 of the most popular tires ever, bighorns, terracross, and itp XTR's, There all 6 ply? The new terracross xd's might be 8 ply I dont know but it seems every new SUPER TIRE out there is 8 ply and people complain of stiff, bad ride! Whats everyone else's opinion?

Check out the GBC MotorSports tire line! They have several 8-ply tires to choose from....myself I have the Dirt Commanders and my wife's bike having the 14" rims has the Grim Reapers!

Not all trails are a super highway. Farmland for instance has a variety of riding conditions. Corn stuble, thorn thickets. rock washes, you name it, you'll find it. I run 8 plys because you never know what conditions you'll be working in from day to day. I run Pit Rockers and I have not one bad thing to say about them. One of the best, if not the best, all around tire as far as I'm concerned.

I had real good luck with my 14" bighorns. Great ride at 5 to 7 psi. So far the PB Rockers seem to ride very nice for an 8 ply tire at 5 psi.
Biggest problem is the 14" wheels. They just suck because you loose all that nice sidewall flex to help soften the ride. Too bad we are stuck with these 14's. Have to be careful with lower pressures.
