How are the Carlisle 489 II's ??
I 'm waiting to buy within a month my shinny new XP 850 EPS (orange madness of course) but if i remove the original tires and wheels before i ride it, i'll get a better price on resale ... So i'm wondering if the 489 II's (3ply) are good and i should keep them or go direct to a Bighorn on 27 inchs with a aftermarket wheel that is 1 inch out in offset.
thanks for inputs..
Newbie,
Rash

Sorry Moparnut, gotta disagree with you on the sand comment, haven't had a problem at all with mine, they rock on sand (gotta let them down of course, standard pressue is a bit too high), on dirt roads and mud (not deep) I have found them good also but as far as rocky terrain goes I haven't been in a jagged rocky area to give you a good assessment. As an all round tyre they work for me
Oh, also, re: your name Moparnut, I can relate to this as I have a Dodge M37B1 with a 318 Poly LA, Love it!!
Regards - MM

Thanks for input guys..
i won't do much intense rocks, only on occasion if i have to get somewhere, but when you gotta get there and there is a mudhole or a river in the way, well, the tires must not let you down. But still, 90% of riding is on gravel and hardpacked... so in these conditions a roll of toilet paper will do...

I took mine off and put on a set of Bighorns the second day I owned it. My buddy thought he would keep his on his 550 for a while. After one ride in the mountains, he was ordering a set of STI Black Diamond XTR's. With less than 100 miles on the BD's, he was ordering a set of Bighorns. I highly recommend the Bighorns. Tough to beat for the money.

They are a pretty decent tire. Haven't left me stuck in any situation yet, and I have been threw everything. They have been chewed up a little bit because of a lot of rocky trails. I'm ridding mine till they wear out. They work just fine.

If you pull the 489's off right away you will have a lot better luck selling them. Should get $200 to $250 easy for the set to help offset the cost of some good performing tires.
