tire size matching

Hey guys, newbie to Polaris AWD here, on my scrambler 500. I'm looking around at pictures, posted signatures, and so on and have (probably a dumb) question: Isn't it imperative that your tire sizes match up at a certain ratio so that the front / rear are turning at the same speed? Or is it not that imperative since awd only kicks in during slip anyway? I'm just thinking like, in a 4wd truck, tire heights have to match. Don't they also on awd atv?

I am also wondering the same question. I have a scrambler and I know that the front is a 23" and the rear is a 22" But I like the look of a 22" all the way around. I don't think it will really matter as long as it's not more than an inch difference
