New tire problem

I have an 09 850xp. I just replaced the junk stock tires with Big Horns 26x9x14 and 26x11x14. They rub the sway bars at certain angles. Should I buy the rediculously expensive spacers or should i modify the sway bars? Has anyone tried taking the sway bars completely off? If so, how does it ride afterwards?

I bent the rear sway bar using a ratchet strap to fit the Bighorn 2.0s on my 850. It was a pain in the ass, but it works. Do a search - several people have done it. I would recommend this over removing the sway bar or using spacers.

Well, the strap thing didn't work. With three of us taking turns cranking as hard as we could all we did was bend one side maybe a half inch. For now, I just left the sway bar unhooked and took out the bottom mounts. If anybody else has removed the sway bar, comments would be appreciated on the ride of the bike.

It took a few times for me to get it bent enough. I let it sit overnight a couple nights. If it's not going to work for you, I would use wheel spacers over removing the bar. Spacers would be the less drastic change of the two.

I have a 2010 850 xp and was thinking of getting those same tires, the Maxxis bighorns. Would i have the same problem or did they change the sway bar as i heard elsewhere.

They changed the swaybar to give more clearance and they should fit. Try the search feature, I'm sure someone's done it by now.

No clearance problems on the 2010. Polaris wised up and changed things.

Very interesting that you couldn't get that bent. I was able to do it very quickly with a. 2" truck strap. It bent just like butter.
