Aftermarket wheels and tires ??

Recently purchased a used Polaris Sportsman 800 x2 4x4 and I'm thinking about changing wheels and tires to dress it up a bit. Questions: Should I stick with the OEM sizes front and rear or go to an all around type size? I hear the aftermarket wheel offsets are slightly different than OEM, is there a safe range to play with and avoid interference? If I decide to go to a larger tire is there a max size recommended, OEM is 25 how large can I go and avoid rubs or binding? Have been reviewing Rocky Mountain ATV site..any MFGs to avoid? Looking for an all around tire/wheel combo I think.

Thanks in advance,
Wayne

If you go with a 4+3 off set rim, you won't have any problems using a larger than OEM size tire. I had 26-9-12 fronts and 26-12-12 rears, Maxxis Bighorns on my '07 800 X2. I ride with a guy who is running 27" Bighorns on his '08 700 X2, and he has no clearance problems.
The wheels are ITP Delta steel. Cheap but extremely tough wheels. It is a great combination for a tough, go anywhere setup.

Bob has you on the right track here. I will add to be sure that there are no width restrictions in the areas the you ride. 4+3 offset allow for clearing larger tires but often times pushes the ATV total width just over 50" which is illegal in some areas.

As for the MFG's, bighorns are a crowd favorite as they are a good all around tire. There are so many opinions about tires, it's hard to give a recommendation without knowing exactly what you're looking for (price, size, use...ect).

You are right. I did forget to mention the width. Not something I think much about because there are really no trails around here with that restriction. I think my X2 was right at 50" with that setup, but I won't swear to it. Those tires and wheels are now on my wifes 500, but I don't know how accurate that comparison would be. I do know that it would fit between the wheel wells on my 3/4 ton Chevy.

Thumbs up Thanks!!

Thank you folks, great info in short order!!
And also big thanks for the 50 inch heads up, we have those restrictions here and I didn't even think about that when I was doing my initial research.

New Shoes!

Thanks for the help and advice guys!! Added a set of STI HD7's wrapped in 26 inch Bighorns, not as radical as most on here but I have to start somewhere right!! Ordered a pair of Guru brushguards today to keep the upgrades coming.
