tire up grade on a 2010 850

looking to upgrade the tires on the new ride. want a agressive tire for the mud but rides well on the trails and in the snow. one that wont get chewed up on the rocks. not looking for to run the mud and water up to the racks but reasonable mudding. radial tires that i am looking at are..
27 XTR's
26 BH's
i will be running these on stock wheels. how do these tires compare to each other. i know the reputation of the BH's as a trail tire but how are they in the mud? I have read members comments on these and i am really leaning towards the XTR's. but if the BH's are ok in the mud then i could save about $60.

update: i have read all of the posts on tires on here and other forums and came to this conclusion, when i put allterrain tires on my pickup i was not totally pleased, since i put BF Goodrich Mud terrains on i became a happy man. not too agressive and ride well on the road. this though brought me to the conclusion that i wouldnt be as happy with the BH's. I guess time will tell as i just ordered a set of 27" XTR's for $449.
plus the wife said they looked cool and she said buy them!

you made a good choice, i had the horns and there are not a mud tire. i did my first ride on my XTR last saturday, i like them on the 850. had them on my 800 outy and my 700 king quad, no complaints.

I was on the fence for XTR'S or Terracross and did my homework and I ride the same type of riding you describe I came across the GBC Grim Reaper 8 ply and of all the reviews I've read seems to be the BEST all around tire...guys seem to say that XTR'S did not do so well in ROCKS and DOWNED wet tree's/branches, they lacked GRIP and PUNCTURE easily and HEAVY but otherwise is a good overall tire, check out the link on the GBC'S

I have been looking at some of the gbc tires. I can't decide between the spartacus or the grim reaper. anyone got any experience with these?

I'm still shopping and waiting to see what 2011 will have to offer...hoping they'll come out with a X2 850 w/EPS...if not I'm getting a 850XP either '10 or '11.

I have a bud with a set on a 850XP and LOVE'S them!!! it really is a ALL AROUND tire good in SNOW,SAND,MUD to a certain point,smoooooth on HARD packed and SUPERB on ROCK climbing! tough as NAILS.

I'm ordering a set of 27"

yea, i'm starting to lean towards them, especially for 434.00.. Only 55.00 difference between them and the bighorns on the 26" size
