27" Grim Reapers on a XP (pics)
well i talked to a buddy who bought some grim reapers for his '09 850xp.
i went over to do some comparing. here is what i found out.
he bought 27-11-14 and 27-9-14 on new 14x7 rims. rim offset was 2-5.
the stock tires sit @ 25 1/4". the new reapers were actually 28"
because of the rim offset, clearance wasnt an issue but the new outside width measurement was 52" (4 more than stock)
here are the rear stock tires next to the new reapers
and next to the 26" ITP mudlites he has on his 07' 800
full view
after a quick test spin he said he noticed a lil drop in low-end power, but could still pull up a wheelie easily.
i want to get the 26" reapers for my 550xp and use them on my stock rims. but i was thinking of just getting 4 - 9" tires to go all around. i am gettin a clutch kit to help with the new traction.

Nice tires, I got the GBC spartacus 27x9-14 and 27x11-14 on my stock rims,on my 09' 550xp. i was looking at the grim reapers, but went with the spartacus's
no clutch kit, but i did need 1" spacers.

great post rugnuts! I'm in the market for new tires but still cant seem to decide what to get, I was going to go with the bighorns, but i they only come 26" high and i think i want 27"s. So now I'm leaning toward the XTR's. I did look into the reapers and also the pitbulls, but i think the XTR's will be better in the mud when i decide to hit the mud holes but not to sure of the snow. It seems difficult to decide on an around tire cause i like to do all from climbing hills, hammerin down the throttle to 70 mph, goin over rocky trails, snow riding, and mud.
I do know first hand that the mudlites are better than the Kenda executioners. Even got video of the two going through the mud on Saturday during our club ride.

XTRs are better than Bighorns in the snow.
I have 26" Bighorns & 27" XTRs. I prefer the BHs unless I know I'll be in the deeper mud.

Are those rims ITP SS112, at what psi are you getting 28" overall height on the Reaper tire I'm wanting a set for my new 850XP but I'm not sure if I want a 28" overall height on STOCK rims...I might be better to go with a 26" and end up with 27" overall!
Good info...thanks for the pics

no they are not itp rims, they were another brand that he got at discounttiredirect on sale. warrior was the model line i think. four tires, rims and lugnuts was $675 delivered. good price!
they came mounted so i dont know what the psi was. before mounting them onto the 850, if you put your hand on em with all your weight, you could get them to squat some. so i dont think they were overinflated.

Why is it that you prefer the BH over the xtr's unless you're in mud or snow

I like the toughness, the durability of the casing.
The tread grips when you need it to, yet you can break em loose if you want to slide around a bit. Tread wears like iron. Over 4000 miles on my first set and still have 16/32" tread depth.
XTRs, tho' not a true mud tire, do fairly well in the slop. They clean out well and the sidewalls bite pretty well also.
I rode w someone who had XTRs when I had the BHs mounted. Both of us on 700 Grizzlies. 12-16 inches of snow. He rode around better than I could on the unbroken trail. I've since simply used the XTRs in the winter w no complaints.
