Looking for advice on wheels

I bought a 2003 Sportsman 700 that someone put on 26 x 8- 12 and 26 x 11-12 tires on the factory chrome wheels. The wheels are all dinged up around the bead area and I would like to replace them. Not wanting to replace the tires as they are like new, but it seems that the rim runs right even with the side wall of the tire in stead of being in an inch or two like my buddy's Brute. Is this normal? What kind of wheels would you recommend, steel aluminum?? Don't what to spend mega bucks but want something that looks good and wont get dinged as easy as the steel ones that are on it now.

Go for any steel aluminum they will serve its purpose unless your going to race your quad.
