IF the vent line is connected its likely under vacuum and IMHO SHOULD NOT. The vent or the axle for that matter was never designed to have vacuum on it.
I would plug the line and run the vent up as high as you can and tie it in place. It may be worth the couple quarts of 90W to pull the cover, drain and refill the axle. Most people never change the oil anyhow and it likely over due...
BTW, OVER filling can cause it to puke too...

the wife had the oil changed 3 weeks ago and they told her that it was time to change the oil in rear end at a cost of $75.00 and now its doing this. so i guess i will take it back and see if they over filled it. thanks
