jeep grand cherokee
i was wondering if any body can tell what this is? I have a 2003 grand cherokee and up in the left rear quarter panel behind the rear tire there is something that looks like some kind of pump and it is leaking oil that smells like rear end grease, can any one help me?

Can you post a pic of it? It might be equipped with rear heat and air. Antifreeze maybe? Are you sure a vent line from the rear differential is not leaking?

no the diff isnt leaking, the oil is coming out of this thing. The dealer was closed when i noticed it. it has a small rubber hose going to it. It smells like 90 weight oil

the part he is referring too is the LDP (Leak Detection Pump) which is run by vacuum off the engine to check for fuel leaks and blockage. there is also a charcoal canister down there too. if anyone else sends me a reply ill send it on too you

yeah i know. but thats all i can think of that would be back there. im stumped. nothing should have oil in it i dont think. this came in too:

you might be right, it might be the axle vent and its all over that soleniod. I hope that oil dont hurt the soleniod, there are some jeep guys coming over to look at it later. thanks to every body for the help, will let you know what i find out
