Mio, MI 2/14-2/17

Not sure if anyone lives around Mio, MI, but plan on going up north Feb 14-17. It is one of the counties you can ride on any road except state roads. Home

There are many, many miles of trails there. You usually don't run into anyone else out there during the week. I take my daughter up north with me when I go, but she is too young to ride so I don't ride all day every day. Just half a day a couple times.

If anyone is in the area and wants to come you are more than welcome. Usually me and one of my two brother's go. I am actually going to look at a real clean 03 Trail Blazer for one of my brother's tomorrow. I'll pick it up for them if it checks out okay, so then the three of us will probably go out.

Here are some pics from one of the trails that run from Bull Gap to Mack Lake. The last picture is of a cow I saw. We had rode to my uncle's who lives on a lake that some of the trails go to. Someone had the cow to process it themselves I guess. I was riding behind my brother at the time, who lives in Mio, and he turned around to see why I stopped.

I said "Who the heck leaves two dead cows in their front yard? You guys this far north aren't quite right sometimes."

Fully expecting him to agree, he said "Oh. That's one of my good friends. I'll have to call him when we get back and see where he got them from."

WTF

Good ride yesterday. We rode 40 miles, then my older brother stated crying about his wrist hurting. Apparently he hurt it at work a few days ago, he is almost 40 so I will let him have this one.

He did show us up riding though. Me and my younger brother couldn't get my Traill Boss (the ATV my younger brother was riding all day) up Bull Gap, it was ice under the snow. So I rode my Sportsman up to the top, and my younger brother rode my older brother's Trail Blazer that is studded up. As we were up top checking out the view, my older brother comes flying up the hill in my Trail Boss. Our jaws were on the floor. "I thought I would show you kids how to ride a quad!" Next year, depending on the weather, I will probably stud the tires on both my ATVs. It was amazing the difference it made when steering and braking.

The trails were fun, but a little dicey at times. Under a few inches of powder snow it was ice. I almost slide into a tree once, and my other two brothers were on 3 wheels many times trying to make corners. My AWD made all the difference, but wears you out when it come to steering. With the snow, it was hard to see the ruts that we usually ride that allow you take the corners at a much faster pace.

We rode out to a party store that has gas, hot chocolate, snacks, etc. called the Pink Store in Rose City. It is geared towards ATVs, snowmobiles, fishing and is painted pink. After gassing up we took some short cuts on the way back to avoid the difficult trails due to my brother's wrist. I wasn't complaining because I was getting worn out from driving a tank through tight trails.

We left everything loaded up to go out again today, but woke up fresh snow and decided against it. Decided to take the kids ice skating instead.

Here are some of the pics. The first one is when we stopped for gas when we got off the exit. The yellow Trail Blazer is the ATV my older brother had just bought. I had picked it up for him a few weeks ago and he actually hadn't seen it until the day before. He loved it, and it ran like a champ all day. He really got it for his wife/kids, and will probably get a Scrambler for himself.
