With an even matched setup, the 800Rs would just walk all over the 850s in the testing we conducted right after the 850s first came out. I would say they are probably an even match now. But the 1000 will probably beat the 850 HO by an even wider margin. Not that it really would make a lot of difference, out on the trail. but it is fun to drag race your buddies for bragging rights.

NEW! Larger 42mm throttle bodies is where the expense will be. Was last years 40mm? That 20% increase off the line will be nice and if you ask me there is not a ride that's equal. Should be a very nice machine. I love my 2010 model with 1243 miles and no problems. I'm contemplating a new one.

With can am improving there DPS, introducing an all new 82hp 1000, with Polaris like rack systems, projector lights, new suspension larger fuel tanks. Other then in visual appearance since the new Outlander to me is a little on the ugly side, the Outlander does have very stong potential to trump the Sportsman for my pick of top atv on the market. I have been giving that to the sportsman 850 for 09,10,11. But I don't think I can say that this year.
Looks like the 850 X2 is gone all together, much less adding eps to it, it looks like it is gone from the lineup for 2012. Only showing listed a 550 non eps X2.

I thought the 800's put out more HP than the 850XP. Weighing less I would expect the same results. Definitely can't go by cc's alone. My 840 brute proves that, and the 88hp 875 RZR motor.
You may be right they may be closer in speed than expected with the Polaris weighing more. I've read some test rider reports of the 1000's saying they didn't see a huge seat of the pants increase either over the 800's. I think they gained substantial weight that negated some of the increased HP.

i was disappointed they removed the 850X2, plus no eps on the x2 550 either. i was hoping they'd revamp the scrambler and make a 550 and 850 models on the XP chassis to compete with the renegade. but, the rzr 570 looks cool. atvtv.com says the rzr 570 goes 0 to 35mph in 3.5 and the rzr 800 does it in 3.8? i thought that was pretty cool. i will consider a rzr 570.
ps- the outlanders are cool, but a little ugly in my opinion.

I could live with the wide seat on a 1000 can-am if it came on the 2up model but i'd have to be convinced that they had fixed the hot leg problem. 11 more ponies makes me doubt it on the can-am. I'm a little leary about if the increased hp on the XPs will heat up the leg also. Time will tell. Other than that issue I'm all for the increased HP.
I wonder if Can-Am hadn't come out with their 1000 if we would have seen a HO 850 released and if we'll see a bigger cc motor in the 2013 XPs or if they will wait for a new platform. I'm afraid polaris may be satisfied to set on a 5 HP shortcoming for a while.
Any body seen the weight on the 1000 yet. They may be closer then we think in performance.

Now this is aggrivating....I really wanted Camo on my 500 but it wasnt offered on the 11 model year. I wouldve waited a month if i knew...im actually kinda pissed, and the bigger storage box/EBS for $500 more wouldve been icing on the damn cake.....

Where's the new version scrambler that will compete with the renegade. Either my dealer didn't no what he was talking about or they put it on the back burner again. Come on Polaris get with it or your going to lose another long time customer.

Late release machines
I did hear that Polaris is going to have models to release next spring, kind of like they did with the 900 rzr xp. I don't think it will be just one machine, sounds like a few.
