thanks for the info. i wonder what will happen with the scrambler? it would have to totally be redesigned to drop a 550 motor in it. do you think they'd give it efi rather than keeping it carbed. i've thought about buying one for my son, just would rather have an atv with efi.

I really hope that they do not get rid of, or alter the Sportsman 500HO, too much, bcause that would be shootring themselves on the foot.
That is one of the reasons the 500 os such an awesome seller, low cost, and not too complex.
If anything, California could find themselves with out a lot of good toys, due to their higher standards.

I suspect that at some point that it will have to go to EFI for about all the larger bore machines, my guess is probably anything over 250cc will someday all be EFI.
As for the scrambler, it was concidered to me new for 2010 when they basicly tweaked a few things and gave it a new restyled set of plastics.
So it is my guess that it will be back in 2011 as a cary over versiono of the new 2010 model. But I would not be susprised if not in 2011, that still at some point it will have EFI.
It is rummored that Polaris has been working on a new Renegade style machine based on the 850 XP just like Can-am's Renegade is based of there Outlander. I think if they deside to take it to market that it has also been rumored that it may have a name of its own rather then take on the Scrambler name. These are just Rummors and even if it is true that Polaris has some test mules or is working on something, it does not mean it will ever see the showroom lights.

You have to remember the 500 Sportsman has been sunch an awesome sales leader over all these years, partially because for several years in the late 90s early 2000s, it was there top dog/ Flag ship model.
Then if you look at the older chasis in general 400-800 versions, they were the only versions Polaris had up untill 2009. I think Polaris recognized that the 500HO had been a great selling machine, and that I am sure played into there keeping it around in the line up for a few years side by side with it's replacement the new 550 Sportsman.
The notion of the scrambler being all new or so they like to pretend its all new for 2010, and it shares the same 500 HO motor, it is quite possible that the 500 HO sportsman may stick around for yet another year. I would just not expect its sales for 2009 and 2010 to really look anything like they might have in prior years when it had the showroom to itself. Polaris has sold a lot of the new XP sportsman 550s with and without EPS.
I was mistaken the other day about there only being two models left on the old chassis for 2010 there is the 500HO single seat and the Touring as I mentioned. They also had an EFI 800 single seat and EFI 800 6x6 on the old chassis for the 2010 model year. So there were actually 4 models still availble on the old sportsman chassis for 2010. I believe there were 8 total versions still on the old chassis in 2009. As I mentioned it is being phased out, but how soon is unknown. I suspect it all depends on sales volume in 2010 as to rather it makes it back for 2011.

i think it would be interesting to see a 550 /850 scrambler. use the same XP chassis like what you mentioned and redesign the plastic and tweak a few things. do you think the XP chassis could handle being used and abused like a sport quad? its so heavy i figure jumping it to much would tear it up.

Also a big one that does concern me a little.
The 760cc Ranger800, RZR 800, 800 Sportsman 6x6.

The reason I am a little concerned about this one, is that there were some rummors floating about that Polaris had some new Ranger / RZR models in the works that should be on par with the new Can-Am Commander side by side 1000. Looks like the RZR is not even getting a bump up to the newer 850 power plant. It will be tough for a 55hp machine to compete with a Commander that is 85hp machine.
Also to the use of the old Sportsman chassis. Looks like the 800 EFI old style Sportsman will contunue on as the chassis for the 800 6x6, but it looks like the standard single seat 800 EFI is now gone from the 800 lineup . That is the same single seat chassis that the 500HO was on. So it may be yet another sign that the old chassis Sportsmans are almost phased out, and the 500HO is looking less and less likley to me making it back for 2011.

What will they be replacing it with? A 500XP?
Will the NON EPS 550 still be available in 2011??
If the 500HO is gone altogether, and not replaced, I could swing a 550XP NON EPS.

I am sure the non EPS 550 XP will be in the line up for quite some time to come, probably as long as the old 500 version was around. I see no chance of there ever being a 500XP when they have the 550, that is replacing the 500s. The 2011 550 XP was certified at the same time the 850s were, about a month ago.
I am not sure the old chassis is gone just yet. Polaris has not certified any of the machines that used that 500HO motor, there were two left last year, the old style Sportsman and the Scrambler that was refreshed with all new plastics just last year.
Polaris has certified about everything else though. The Ranger certifications came out a couple weeks ago, including the RZR, pretty much all the machines using the 760cc (800) motors. There is at least one machine returning with the old Sportsman chassis under it, that is the 760 6x6, it is listed under the same certification as the Rangers and RZRs.

dealer meeting is in august, but from the looks of it, the sportsman 500 and 800 are gone, the XPs will be replacing them, and the RZR and RZR-S will not have any changes other then colors and editions.
i dont think the RZR is ready for the 850 motor yet.
