2010 PPIHC - UTV Premier

Well its official! Doug Siddens, in his 2009 Polaris RZR-S, is the first person ever to drive a UTV at the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb!

On June 27th, 2010, Doug was the only UTV in the Powersports Exhibition class. Not only did he finish first in his class, but he also beat out over 40% of the 152 competitors on race day with his time of 14:03.

Just reaching the top of this monumental mountain is a mechanical feat within itself. To do it in the time he did is more than respectable. There were also some other variables on race day that make this run even that much more notable. For one, it was snowing about the last three miles of the climb, and two, Doug has no professional racing experience. Not bad for a small town guy with no factory backing and an entire Powersport resting on his shoulders!

But you don't have to hop in your RZR and try to visualize what Doug's historic run was like, as he captured it all thanks to several ContourHD camcorders. So load up the beautiful HD version of the video below, turn the sound up and enjoy a ride up the gnarliest hill climb in the world!

*Make sure that you select 720p next to the slider on the bottom of the video or visit YouTube directly for the wide-screen version.

I was actually hitting 85+ mph in practice, but I detuned the RZR on race day so that I was assured to make it to the top without any hiccups. It was more important that I finished this year than running a super fast time, as all eyes were on me

A buddy of mine races a Banshee out there in PPIHC. He has won his class a few times. That really a wild race, I get a little nervy going up Pikes peak in a car at normal speeds.LOL
I can't imagine what that would be like to race up that mountain.

Congrats

Yeah I had a total of 4 ContourHD cameras on the RZR, but I lost two of them not even half way up the mountain. There was a rain delay just before our class was to start and several cars that went off the road. So after turning them on and off for over an hour just waiting to go, they died early. There was some awesome footage from the in-car camera at the finish line, but the snow packed the lens up and you couldn't see much of anything out of it for about the last half mile

I went up Pikes Peak on my honeymoon in Oct 07 in a Jeep Wrangler most awesome ride ever. The road is cool great job in the UTV, I remember alot of those corners, but I think I took them at about 5mph not 40 still remember the back of the Jeep bouncing on some of the washboarded gravel. Made me kind of queasy in the steep corners. Still an unreal and awesome place to be. Shows the wonders that God can do.
