I'm honestly not sure if I have a belt slipping or not. I've noticed a "squeal" when descending steep hills when the EBS kicks in. If I give it a little throttle, the squeal stops. I'm pretty sure it's a belt, but since I'm new to Polaris, not 100%.

I don't think i have had the belt slip yet, though I also haven't driven through any water yet either.

I recently have had a belt slip. The Belt actually had a chunk biten out of it with less then 50 hours on a 2010 sportsman 500 ho. I took it to the dealer and they asked what i was doing when it happened. I was riding in a pasture at 15-25 mph. It was sprinkling (not enough to get soaked) and giving kids rides so i was not pushing it to do something that would be evenly remotely considered abuse. There was a little smoke and then it started slipping and grabbing at regular intervals. I garaged the machine and took it to the dealer. Polaris is not wanting to replace the belt even with the low milage and the dealer unable to explain how it happen or what on the bike took the chunk out. The dealership is working with me on the price, but i am going to contact polaris on my own and see what they say.

Interested to hear what they say on your 500 HO, JS. I was told that the belt is considered a wear item and not covered under warranty. Would still like to know how we can push one hard all weekend at the ATV park with no problems, then blow a chunk out of it riding slow on a smooth road the next day at the house.

As for the water aspect I keep hearing about, the belt box on the touring has been flooded, drained, and driven with the driving part drying the belt. That kind of slip doesn't bother me, it's the belt slipping when dry because of to steep a hill or too thick a mud hole in high range that takes the belt out on it.

WOW!!!! I wouldn't be able to afford to ride it. My dealer said it's approx $170-200 for a belt replacement.

Next time you need a belt give me a shout I'll cut you a deal and throw in shipping. Not cheap in Louisiana but $65 to $100 all day long, just not on Mondays.

Maybe your dealer was factoring in the $90 an hour labor charge.

The 170-200 price is what most polaris places are going to charge. The belt is roughly $50-60 and then the hourly rate is normally $90. I am now dealing with both the dealership and polaris as to why mine is not covered by warranty even if the machine is new. I was told by the dealership that i have an hourglass shaped burn in my belt, but they cant pinpoint what may have caused it.
