Thermostat Elimination.
Im thinking about eliminating the thermostat on my 525s. Ct racing recomends this and is suppose to let the outlaw run cooler. Just seeing if anyone else had done this mod, and the results of it.

It usually not a good idea to remove the thermostat, because your engine wont reach normal operating temperature, and that can cause a loss in power and poor gas mileage. At least thats what ive always been told.

I don't see why a ATV engine would be any different than a automobile...
IMHO its NOT a good idea. The thermostat is there for a reason, it allows the engine to get to proper temp for best operation. With more and more computer controls on our engines this is more and more important. Lo temps can cause sludge to form in the crank case. Fuel economy will likely also suffer... Again, as long as they are the same as cars and trucks...

The thermostat elimination kit works very well when riding slow in the woods...or in hotter climates...
I have ridden mine without a thermostat from 28 degrees...to 103 degrees...before the thermostat removal...the fan would come on all the time when doing slower riding.
I do notice that the motor takes longer to heat up when I am riding in really cool weather...but I just leave the choke on longer...and let it warm up longer...a practice that prolongs engine life.
Per the other answers...this quad has a carburator...no electronic fuel injection.
Allen at CT ...as well as other reputable engine builders...know what they are talking about .
My KTM 525 dual sport motorcycle doesn't have a thermostat...it comes without one stock ...and it has almost 45000 miles on it without there being any problems.

P.S. sludge comes from using lousy oil...and not changing it often enough...especially if you are using old dinosaurs for lubrication instead of synthetics.

Thanks for the info. And i ride mostly woods, thats why i am considering it.

I don't agree with removing the thermostat. You have to think about how a cooling system operates to understand why. Thermostats main purpose is to keep engine temps constant. It warms engine quickly and helps keep system pressures constant. What most people do not think about is the other side of the spectrum. While one of its purposes is to warm engine quickly, the other is to keep coolant in the radiator longer letting the fan do its job before allowing it to recirculate back to motor which in effect leads to better cooling system efficiency. Fans are made to run at slow speeds in the woods, that's what they are for and work in unison together. Engines are designed to run at these temps. If your hot light is staying on and fan runs constant then I would have a look at radiator for being plugged. Deletion of any parts won't cure that.
