What is the best way to LIMIT power? (for kid use)
I realize this is the exact opposite of what everyone else is trying to do here, but I am buying 2008 Outlaw 525 S for my 16 yr old daughter. I would like to possibly limit the power output by way of some spacer that does not allow the throttle to be pushed all the way, until she gets more comfortable on it.
I know that the wisdom of this decision is questionable, but she rides 550lbs Yamaha Big Bear 400 pretty well. Raptor 250 did not have enough power for her. I did want something lighter for her but when I looked at Raptor 350, Kawasaki KFX400/Suzuki LTZ400 and the Outlaw 525, they all weigh 375 lbs. dry weight +_ couple of lbs. This will save me from buying another quad later. The main goal here is to allow her to ride with us in Ouray, Colorado in September. Small quads don't do well up in that altitude.

Polaris used to make a throttle stop. Check with the dealer ,it mounts next to the thumb throttle and will only allow you to go at the set rpm

If she handles the power of others no problem, why not have her learn and respect the full throttle power. Only real reason I state this is we got my son (7) a polaris outlaw 90, and turned it down to about half throttle...low and behold we're at the cabin and he goes to climb the little hill in back (which is a decent angle) and because he doesn't have enough juice he can't can't the machine up over the crest...well fortunately before he tips backwards as he applied the breaks and is sitting back on the seat, dad (me) was there to grab the front end..where as we both learned a lesson...don't brake on top of a steep incline or at least if you do throw your weight up over the handlebars, and dad (me) ensure he has enough throttle to keep him out of harms way...
Just a story I thought I would share,
Cheers

i agree. unless it is on flat ground limiting power could be as dangerous as too much power. i would say let her ride under supervision, tell her to stay off the throttle and stay in 2nd gear until she is ready or you are confident.
if you must do it. most aftermarket thumb throttles or honda or yamaha thumb throttles have a set screw. here is the aftermarket one i have on my outlaw 525
i even think some of the stock polaris ones have a 10mm set screw on the under side of the thumb throttle. may just be the older ones though.
