Oil Change Question
When I take out the oil drain plug on my 08 525, only about 1/2 a quart drains out. Is this as much as it holds? Also, How often should I change the oil filters. I cannot see changing them everytime I change the oil.
Also, above the front sprocket there is a small fitting with a rubber cap over it that says "oil". What is this for?

Its more then 1 qt, somewhere around the range of 1.3-1.5 qts. I would at least change the filters every other time, if not every time. Remember you will need less oil if you do not change the filters.
Best bet is to grab two qts of some 10w-40 motorcycle specific oil. (I think Polaris says use their 2w-50, but KTM says use 10w-40 or 10w-50, and they built the motor, so I go with them) It has to be okay for wet clutches, and car oil has detergents in it that can break down the clutch plates that are bathed in the same oil used by the engine.
Just go by the sight glass for how much to add. Should be at the bottom of the glass when the oil cold and engine off. There should be some marks around the side.

There must be another drain plug somewhere. When I take out the one with an allen wrench, only about 1/2 qt drains out. I know it holds more than this but how do I get it all out?

Same RFS motor that you have. This oil change is just on a bike instead of the quad. Hope this helps.

The cap marked "oil" by the front sproket...I was told by the dealer that it was for the hydrolic clutch and something I didn't need to worry about. Did you find the same info?
The last time I changed the oil in my 525 outlaw, I used just over 1.5 quarts...but I also changed both filters as well.

there is a drain on the bottom and another drain which holds ur suction screen. if u want to use good oil ktm sells elf oil supposed to be excellent for the 525 motor. filters are cheap....engine expensive...i always change filters every time

you might be refering to the oil screen plug, and the Outlaw has two. A long and a short.
