outlaw 500 timing setup
Hi, im new to this. I bought a 2006 Outlaw from a friend for $500. The problem we are having is the timing is off. Pulled plug to set the T mark but the dots on the intake and exhaust dont line up correctly with the gold links on chain.
Any help on this.

I'm looking at the marks on the intake and exhaust. lined up 12 & 9 o'clock. bottom gear is lined up. gold links set on the marks. Piston is all the way up.
But the marks on the stator looking thru the peep hole is no where close to the marks. The motor spins & spins but not starting up. Will back fire every so often.
Is there something I'm missing. I hate to take it to the shop and get them to set timing for me for $90.

make sure your on the right set of marks on the flywheel. theres actually 2 sets of marks search predator 500 timing i know theres a pic of the marks you actually need to use both motors are the same. Its been so long since i did mine i dont remember but if the timing is off you can have valve piston hit and bend/break your valves and toast the head. I wouldnt take it to the shop tho most times i have head that they dont get it right and break valves.

ok, I got the top and bottom of the motor timed in with the gold links on the chain with the piston at the top. But now the flywheel marks are not in site thru peep hole. If I align the marks up on flywheel the piston is at the bottom.
My question is should I take the stator back off and realign flywheel to TDC?
I think the problem might be when I took off the stator to replace flywheel bolts, I forgot to set piston to TDC. The only thing its doing is the motor is spinning but trying to fire on exhaust. So I know the timing is set wrong but cant figure out how.
Thanks
