first off, you are misinformed about the whole polaris/KTM thing. first off, in 2007 polaris bought 24.9% of KTM stock, so polaris only owned 1/4 of KTM. the agreement was that in 2009, at the end of 2 years, polaris would have the option to purchase the majority of KTM stock, possibly leading into a merger.
KTM decided that they did not want to lose majority over there business, so they opted out and denied polaris the ability to purchase majority. so as it sits now.....
polaris still owns 24.9% of KTM stock
KTM operates as their own independent company
----and also owns stock in Husaberg
Stefan Pierer remains on the Polaris Board of Directors
Polaris CEO Tom Tiller remains on KTM Supervisory Board
...and they still share the 525 motor....
now, not to thread jack or be an a-hole, but that first needed to be set clear to understand some of the differences. i work at a polaris and ktm dealership, so i know both manufactures pretty well. as far as the outlaw goes, the only thing KTM on it is the motor. the suspension, chassis, airbox, exhaust, is all polaris engineered. that bike is purposely de-tuned by polaris (partly by the airbox) to make it a more friendly recreational bike that more people would not be too afraid to ride.
the KTM 525 XC quad has the same motor as the outlaw, but the entire quad is KTM designed, and it amazing how much faster stock for stock the KTM quad is over the outlaw....but KTM built that quad to be a out of the crate GNCC x-country race quad, polaris built the outlaw to appeal to the masses.
thats why your airbox is so restrictive.

okay,so i was a little out of the who owns who or what percent
i now that the only thing ktm/polaris 525 share is the motor/trans,i also understand the ktm has 6 gears,no reverse, and out of the create is qwicker,i also think going up 1 tooth on the front sprocket will even that out!i was really just wondering what everyone else was doing to over cum that air box issue.for the new'be-we're talking about on 08 an newer 525s models airbox and rubber gromet from the box to the carb-it's robbing a stock model of 8 horsey's due to how restrictive<it's odd angle>it is.and thanxs for letting me no the facts,as i was missed informed about there relationship status.i will say the polaris brakes are alot better than ktm's.i'm not a hater of either or-otherwise i wouldn't be piloting the half breed, really it's the best of both worlds

the outlaw is the best of both worlds. good performance for the price. i do think going up one on the front sprocket will help.
would an aftermarket airbox fix this, i havent looked into it much myself. i hear you though, i know it sucks to get the the all the ponies you paid for. ill see if i can find anything online, but i think an aftermarket airbox is the way to go.
