07 Outlaw525IRS ticking problem(?) (?Clutch?)
Hey everyone, for starters I have a 2007 Polaris Outlaw 525IRS with an HMF pipe and not sure what else ( Don't know if it's already jetted or not ). Well, it starts just fine, it can sit for months and one tap of the button and it fires right up, then comes the knocking, ticking, or chirping, whatever you want to call it. It's be doing it for a long while now. I go it 2 years ago and starting noticing the sound shortly after that. Never really put much thought into it and figured if it's what some people say ( the clutch ) then ill ride it till it goes out completely.... only thing is, year and a half later ( with mainly back road riding ) it's still kicking, no noticable power loss, no noticable shifting problems other than a rough transition from 1st to 2nd sometimes. I have come to 3 possible problems that I can think of from hearsay and reading posts.. It's either
1. Something to do with the clutch that makes the noise ( since the noise slightly dies down when I pull the clutch in )
2. Possibly in the process of blowing up the motor ( as my stepfather has warned me of if I keep riding it... yet it's been doing it for a LONG time )
3. Or, simply all Outlaws make the noise I hear ( as some have stated in a few posts )
If anyone happens to know it would be great. I'll try to get a clip of it up sometime tomorrow so you can hear exactly what it sounds like.
OH and BWT... last summer I over filled my oil and didnt realize it untill it sputtered to a stop about 15-20min after riding. I cant tell if the noise got worse or not when I messed that up or not. But it seems to possibly have.
But anyway im looking into it because I plan on going to West Virgina to ride some wickedly nice trails over Labor Day weekend and want to make sure I don't end up with a blown motor by the end of the trip.
Sorry this is so scattered but thoughts on what to write keep popping in my head and i remember that it also bogs down sometimes at higher RPMs ( mainly 4th and 5th ) when it has plenty of full and the full switch is turned on. If I turn it to Reserve it NEVER bogs down that I have noticed. Witch seems slighty odd to me. Only problem with that is I like playing it safe and turning to reserve when I run out to be safe on making it to refill. But, kinda makes that impossible if I want to run it hard. Thanks in advance!

I can't say for sure, but two questions first. What octane gas are you using? Anything less than 91 will cause a pretty noticable "ping". Or, when was the last time you adjusted your valves?

My 2 cents, but I'd really have to hear it for myself. The 07 Outlaw actually makes those types of noises. It's just the way they are. So, I'd have to hear it myself to determine if it's the normal stuff or something else.

I have the same some knocking sound on my 08 and can't figure out for the life of me what it is. It don't make noise when rpms are up but idling and right before take off it is definatly noticeable. I'm new to this forum thing so I guess Write back if anyone figured it out!!
