Few questions from an old rider (525 IRS)....

Hey all, new to the forums here. Been a while scine I been out riding, heck over 15 years now. Did the whole get married had kids got rid of all my toys thing. Now all my buddies did the same thing and have been slowly working back into the sport. They got a crew of about 7 now, so on Friday I'll be back in the loop too !! Picking up a 2010 Outlaw 525 IRS, I'm pumped. Ok enough backround now for some questions.

1) Maintenance schedule? Dealer wants to charge me 80 bux !! I almost walked right out then and there.

2)Hows the new hydraulic clutch working out for yall? Sounds like its gonna be a breeze? Any tranny issues? Read finding neutral its a PITA and reverse well thats just strange to me anyway but not saying its a bad thing I kinda like the idea of my old ass not having to jump off and pull. How about the rear CV shafts how have they been holding up. Still wrapping my mind around the whole IRS thing, but then again its the main reason I bought the bike ...well and the KTM motor. Hows the carb setup? Read about the air box being restrictive?

3)Overall satisfaction? Any riding tips? Im sure lots has changed since the early 90's when I was into riding 2 strokes. Oh and the IRS is going to be a whole differnt animal to swing around i'm sure, any issues in the air say if i hit a jump a bit off, you know more pressure on one side or the other wouldn't effect a sra the same as it would a irs

I'm sure I'll have a hella lot more questions come friday night or Saturday. Thanks for any replies in advance !!

You're gonna absolutely LOVE the IRS. So much smoother of a ride than the straight axle...If you're worried about cornering, first get rid of the stock tires, they are too rounded. If it still isn't feeling stable enough, there are stiffer aftermarket sway bars that should do the trick. First thing I did was replace the entire exhaust and bumped the jet up to a 158. Made a huge difference. Not that it wasn't a powerhouse out of the gate, but give it a little more fuel, pop the lid off that airbox (get a good filter first--uni or K&N) and hold on to yer ears, flash!

Well you were absolutley right on man !! Love the thing !! Acceleration is excellent the ride well it exceeded my expectations. You can slide it around just as good jus have to get used to the rear end sit up a bit in the seat. Comming outta corners in the trails is unbelieveable, the thing squats a lil and just grips and gets man. The issues Im finding is I can't find anything for the 2010. Is it a safe bet 09 stuff will work? I suppose when I call I can inquire as I order. Was looking at the CT system for pipes/headers read some nice info on them, but havent actually heard them. Anyone running them? Nervous on the air box issue, lots of mud getting slug around some water too. Anything out there outside the norm for airboxes maybe with a prescreen over a bigger opening or multiple openings?
