how durable are they they?
how durable are the ktm 525 engines? i mean i mostly trail ride but i do play around sometimes and run it pretty hard in the rpm range, i notice that it has a real long rpm range it seems like it has no rev limiter but i know it does, even if u just crank it wide open for a quick second with it in nuetral it doesnt hit the rev limiter :/

they are incredibly reliable. one thing KTM is know for is the huge power band, which is what you are noticing. the engine is designed to do just that. it is a true ready to race motor. as long as you are consitant on your oil changes, you should have no problems with it. the longest i would go on these motors is 10 hours run time between changes. if you go over, it doesnt mean you will instantly have problems, but i would keep the change intervals short

Picked mine up on Friday. Spoke with the dealership for a long while on maintemce, just to be sure. 1st change should be between 20-25 hours all filters replaced. From there on in 50 hours is fine. The guy who sold it to me actually owns one and has mods on his its pretty bad a$$ bike. The pb on these things is truely crazy all the way to the top it just wont quit wants to pull and pull and pull. Love this beast glad I choose it !!

Well its been 10-12 hours and she runs like an uncaged animal. Those intervals that i posted previous were directly outta the dealers mouth and the guy who sold me the bike has an 08 pretty modded. This isnt a little dealership either its actually pretty large, they sell everything from bikes to quads to snowmoblies in a ton of brands too. Yammies , zuks of course Polaris, there pretty knowledgable people. I trust them a 100%

I agree, oil is cheap, I'd replace it now, then at 25hrs, then do the 50 hr. intervals. Do they have a magnetic oil plug? You'll be surprised at what you find.

50 hrs seems like alot of time for such a small amount of oil. Oil isnt that $$. I replace mine about every 10 hrs. I have magnetic plugs in mine and they do pick up quite a bit of metal dust between my 10 hr oil changes...

i dont know about KTM in the atv world, but in the superbike world they are very nice. as with all super performance machines they require a lot of maintenance but if properly maintained they will rock your world for a very long time.
