2004 Phoenix stripped kickstart, starter not working...

Howdy
I just bougth a 2004 phoenix for my wife and after one ride it started to run really rough. Coughing, sputtering, backfiring and the sort...
I pulled the carb off, cleaned the idle jet, started it and it ran great but was still backfiring pretty bad.
I decided it was ride-able, got it out away from electricity, it died. Battery was dead, kickstart was stripped from previous owner. So...

I thought it a good idea to try and jumpstart it to get it back home. Started right up, but running rough on choke, took choke off, engine died, tried jumpstarting again and now starter will not even click. (Solenoid?)
Anyways...
I'm more concerned with getting ONE method to start it...can I buy replacement parts online?
Did I blow my starter up or kill my stator or fry my regulator/rectifier??? FML!

you need a new starter the starter is not rebuildable. you need to upgrade the throttle to the newer version or cut the wires going to the throttle safety switch. the junk throttle is causing your backfires. i am the one who discovered why all the early phoenixs were hard to start and backfired. the throttle safety switch is causing it.
