Battery Dead, runs but headlights dim
I rinsed off my quad lightly with water and it started running rough. After about 20 min. it started running fine again. Two days later the battery was dead. I was able to kick start it and it seemed to run ok, but the lights were dim and they did not brighten with I rev'ed it up. If this was a car, I would suspect the alternator or wet wiring/connections.
I've worked on a lot of cars, but new to quads - any suggestions on where to start?
Thanks!!

Well you don't have a alternator as your car does... You do have a stator and this basically does the same thing. but just as your car, it provides very little voltage to charge the battery at idle.
Check the connections of the battery and give it a good charge and test it. You may have a bad battery.
The motor will start and run on a dead battery, but the light will be dim or off at idle. Should brighten as the RPMs raise.

Thanks for the replies - more info.
It's a Phoenix - I'm not sure of the year, but I think it's about an 2004. I read the voltage on the battery while the engine was off, it was a little over 12V. Not enough amps to turn it over. When I kick started it, the voltage dropped to around 9V. I rev'd it and it came up to just over 12v. I disconected the battery while it was running and the voltage dropped to like 2 or 3 volts, but it did keep running. I am trying to charge the battery, but my charger is bad and the one I borrowed from a friend looks pretty cheap. So far, it's not holding a charge. I think the battery may be bad, but I would have expected the lights to brighten up while rev'ing, at least with the battery disconnected???? Town for me is 20 miles, and I don't have any transportation at the moment (my truck is FULL of construction lumber). I have a larger battery from my old WaveRaider that I could micky mouse connect for testing. Any ideas???
Thanks
Paul

If I read correctly, your engine is trying to charge a battery that will not take or hold a charge.
It sounds like the battery is toast. Buy a new one and you should be fine.
