Angry Phoenix 2011 running problems, Please Help!

History of Quad:
I bought this from a kid back in the summer. Started up fine and it ran great all through the summer! When I first got it I could tell the kid did very little maintenance to it. So I decided to change everything! (spark plug, oil change, oil filter, fuel filter, put in a new headlight, air filter change, cleaned brakes, brand new pair of back tires, etc.) Like I said above, I was very pleased with its performance and reliability.

Bundy Hill:
I decided to test out its capabilities at the most craziest place to ride in my area. I ran the thing all day through everything you can imagine and it performed AWESOME. I had no problems with it all day, the only thing I could see that had changed was the amount of mud caked all over it! After my experience I let the machine sit for awhile at my friends (while we did some routine maintenance to it).

The Problem:
I brought it back to my house and was riding it around my backyard for AWHILE when all of the sudden it died out. I knew it wasn't out of gas and started wondering what was wrong. I couldn't get it to start after that and if it did it would stall out shortly after. (It still had the same tank of gas in it from Bundy Hill from months ago) Also, it has got ALOT more cold in my area (it was December). So every other day or so I would go out and see if I could get her to run. I would get it started, idling, I would let it warm up for awhile. I could even get it to drive around my back yard and sometimes even opening it up wide open. Then it would happen again, the STALL OUT and I would have to push the thing all the way back to my garage because it wouldnt start up again. I would wait 10-15min and I could get her idling again but will sometimes just sputter out when I give it throttle in neutral.

My FAILED solution:
I decided to start with cleaning out the carb (Which shouldnt be that dirty considering it is a 2011). When cleaning it I noticed some of the jet holes were clogged but nothing SERIOUS. I then drained the gas (from bundy hill) and added fresh gas to it. I changed out the air filter from Bundy Hill and even replaced the fuel filter AGAIN!. I charged and trickle charged my battery all night.

I crossed my fingers when I went to start her up this morning but it wouldn't turn over. (It is like 20 degrees today so its EXTREMELY COLD). I gave it full choke and sprayed ONE shot of starter fluid into the air box and she turned over! It would idle at first and I had to half choke it a few times but finally got it to Idle strong for and let it warm up for nearly 20 mins! I had it in neutral and tried to rev it up, and everything sounded & seemed like everything was back in action. I put her in drive and drove her out of the garage and let her experience her first snow of 2012! I ran it slow at first of course around my yard several times to continue to warm it up. Once I thought she was warmed up I let her rip! I did about three laps around my yard BEASTING and as I let off the throttle around a turn she STALLED OUT again . I tried to fire her up and she wouldn't turn over. It was getting time for me to go to work so I had to push her stubborn self all the way back to my garage. I tried to start it up a couple of times but NOTHING!

I like to do things myself rather then getting raped with prices at my local dealer. Is there anyone out there that could give me any input or advice on what steps I need to follow now? Any help, advice, tutorials would be GREATLY appreciated!

Thank You,
Lucas

My sons brand new phoenix was put together by the dealership.
They cheezed out on us and didn't put any electrical grease in any of the front wiring
connections. (under the headlamp there is a nest of connections that could get wet
if not greased to keep water away).
Maybe when you were driving in the mud (the 1st time it happened) the wiring got wet.
The second time you mentioned that you were driving in the snow - maybe the wires
got wet again.

After I pulled my sons wiring connections apart and got some electrical grease on the connections, he had no problems at all going through water. He ususally just goes quicly through puddles but now he sometimes goes slowly through deep puddles
- but never puddles deep enought to get in the air intake.

I don't know if its the same problem but it is definately something to take in consideration. Good luck and please post anything you find out about this problem.

Check your vents in the carb and the tank. Possibly even the float level. I'd go back into the carb and clean everything out of it. All it takes is just a little piece of crud to ruin a day.

Maxs200, I have to agree with you, we must have bout our atv's at the same place.. LOL The dealer "cheezed" out on us as well, using after market parts on a new bike.

I am having the same issue with the bike sputtering and dying, especially after hitting any type of water at all. I was thinking maybe CDI box, but from what I have seen in this thread, I will try your suggestions first, since i know for a fact there is NO grease on any of the connections.

thanks

Check your spark when this problem starts you may find it is very week or no spark at all.

x2 on the dielectric grease in every connection..also in the plug boot.the way it dies sounds like a pinched vent hose.also check your plug, and the spark arrestor.
