From what I gather the Phoenix is kind of supposed to be gutless. Nature of the beast.
I'm sure someone has done some mods though.

I've got a couple of these and have the same issue. If you come up with something, please post!
Mine are good for easy general purpose riding, but I took one of them to the cinders one time and the bike wouldn't even move. I knew they were gutless, but at full throttle is just bogged down and didn't spin the tires or anything. Altitude maybe? I had one of the bikes out at the dunes one time, and it did OK. Not climbing any hills with it, but did ok just cruising around.

actually i took the wife's phoenix out lastnight and was quite impressed with such a little displacement it seemed to go pretty good climed a few good hills almost kept up with a sportsman 400 2 stroke on top end i am sure with a little work it would keep up with it.. for a cheap quad i think it is good bang for the buck.... just keep looking for perfomance parts for it.... i have been looking but with no luck
