What made you think it was an electrical problem? does it spark if you pull the plug and crank over after it dies?

mechanic said wasn't getting fire when hot so I believed him. pulling carb. of first thing morning. thanks..

that's possible, and many times electrical parts fail like that. However a simple spark test will tell the tail. I hate throwing parts at things without running through all the diagnostics. always start with the simple stuff. If a motor doesn't run check the big three..
1) compression
2) fuel (in the right amount)
3) spark (at the right time)
how long does your engine run before cutting out? and does it just shut off, or sputter and then finally die?
