Upgrading Sprockets

I'm thinking about upgrading the front and rear sprockets on my Pred. When upgrading to sprockets with more teeth, do I need a new chain? Are there any other modifications you have to do?

I just replaced my rear sprocket on my 03 , went from a stock 37 to a 40. Stock 94 pin chain will work just need to remove the master link when installing it on rear sprocket. Depending on what size rear sprocket you go with a 40 tooth will have fitment issues with the rear swing arm skid plate. A little trimming required.

Why did you go with a 40t in the rear? And how did it do?

Ok, let's break this down a little further to help understand things better. First and foremost, why? Why are you swapping out your sprockets? Are they worn? Do you have more low end? Top end? Depending on the sprocket sizes, a chain swap may be needed. If you are just looking for alot more low end power, just drop the front sprocket down 1 tooth, and use the stock chain.

@redneck2725: I'm just looking for cheap ways to upgrade performance and it doesn't usually come very cheap. I'm honestly not too sure about whether or not my sprockets are worn because I haven't gotten into taking much apart on my ATV yet (waiting for the manual to come).

Ok so roughly how much top end speed would I lose putting a 40t on the rear? Is it a dramatic amount?
We race in sand and wer not sure what size to go with. The people wer go back to take out is some guys with some renegade 800's with paddles... Yea... They urked us pretty bad but wer scared if we go with 40t it will take away to much top.
