4th Gear won't engage

My buddy just picked up a '03 Predator and he took it out for the first time this weekend. It seems to be running fine except it won't engage in 4th gear, it just revs out like it's in neutral. He can run 1-3 no probs and then he can kick it in to 5th and it works, but no 4th.

Anyone ever had this problem, or know what it could be?

Thanks,

Dam... now you know why it was up 4sale!

sounds like a bad Gear in the trans, Drop the oil and check your oil Filter for metal shavings.

DO NOT drive the Quad Asis you will DO way more damage

I was thinking that it might be the gear, but you would think that it would at least grind a little and try and go into gear...I was thinking it might be the shift fork not fully engaging in 4th gear and keeping it in Neutral...I have to admit though I'm a Banshee guy so don't know too much about Polaris'.

its most likely the gear. could be the timing too. one one of my old bikes we fucked up the timing and 1st gear was now reverse so check those

it probably isnt doing any grinding as the gear is prolly laying in the bottom of the motor. 03's were known for weak trannys. now to do that tranny fix you have to pull the motor and split the cases in half. you have to strip the entire motor to split the cases too. good luck.

From my experience with the predators the 2003 predators have weak transmissions, its probably a bent fork

yeap sounds like 4th gear completely gone,i would change all the gears and new clutch plates and new piston and rings gaskets and seals.with a rebuilt motor and a few mods this motor really rips.we flat out smokes all the 660 raptors we faced in our town.
