I am dealing with pretty much the same problem. I am starting to wonder if somehow the coil is bad? I sprayed a very little bit of starter fluid on plug and put it back in cyl and mine is not firing when plug is in cyl. When the plug is out I have good fire. Anyway I just thought maybe it could be the same for you. If you have already found a solution I would love to hear it. Otherwise I I figure mine out I'll let you know what was wrong with mine.
Thanks
Drew
