pred mods!
Looking to make a custom air intake kit for my pred. Getting some 2.5 in stainless steel tube and going to bend it to fit in right. ill make a splash plate and other guards around the filter. What would be the best filter with a 2.5 in i.d.? i was looking at the kn ones. but theyre so damn pricey! id like alot of surcace area that will take a filtercharger.
When i rebuild the engine, will polishing the intake ports do me any good? theyre a little pitted from the casting.
not sure i want to bore out the cylinder but is there anything i can do to piston, cylinder, rod, shaft that will help?
Any way i can easily get low end power without sacrificing highend and mid power?

i was thinking you where going to move the carb back with a intake manifold.. that needs to stay Rubber.
so your going to Remake the air box boot?? Then a Filter Right on that ? a K&n should not be more then 50 bucks.

the carb isnt going anywhere! just a tube from the carb back to the area the original airbox is and a splash guard for the filter

Hey Jonnyb500,
I have a custom intake (so to speak), but I used a spectre straight 3" tube, 45* bend tube and k&n filter wrapped in foam for a pre filter. I'm gonna switch over to a uni-filter soon, not crazy about a k&n. Piped and jetted it works awesome. I don't have any experience with any internal engine mods, but from what I've read they're not really worth it and only make very minimal power gains if any.

how did your cams and oil pan change your pred? notice any real differences? and did the 3 in tube fit under your seat easily without mods?

Cams made a small difference. Oil tank is great, holds about 3.5 quarts and helps with engine temps quite a bit. The 3" tube fits pretty well under the seat. I really noticed a bid difference with the intake, jet kit and slip on pipe.

hot cams are a waste of money. youll lose top end power. stock cams have been dynoed to show this lose in power on hot cams over stocks.
Port and polish also a waste of money on the fuji motor and hurts power. The fuji head is already to big for a stock motor. If your going to do anything in the motor do a 558 or 560 kit best bang for the buck. Run the stock cams and stock head porting as its almost perfectly setup to be ran as a 558-560 motor.
If your going to get cams for the fuji motor you need to get either hpd cams or webcams and tell them exactly what your doing with the motor. Also with those cams youll have to either know how to degree them for your motor or have a pro that actually knows the fuji motor and not just a polaris tech. With the fuji motor 1 tooth on the stock cams can mean even more money in valves and head work. There is very little to no room for error in this motor. A lot of people think this motor is like all the 450r's out there and they arent. Not even close. If your going to do the work yourself get a shop service manual and read and re-read. If you have other questions either pm me or find me over on my site. Polaris Pro Riders

Sorry it's taken a while to respond, but why are HotCams a waste of money? Also what makes the Pred engine so much different from the 450's?
