It's always best to replace both sprockets and chains together, and that allows you to order a longer chain and cut it down to size.

With that said, usually you don't need to add links for one tooth on the countershaft.

What was stock? 14/38?

14/38 is a ratio of 2.71

15/38 is a ratio of 2.533

The 15 is the wrong sprocket if you want more low end. The 15 is going to take away low end and give you more top end speed.

The bigger that number gets, the more low end you will get, at the sacrifice of top end speed.

So if you use the 15 front, you would need at least a 41 to break even.

A 15/41 is a 2.73.

So if you havent noticed, going one up on the front is about the same as going three down on the rear. The opposite is true. Going one down on the front is about the same as three up on the rear.

So if what you want is low end, I would reconsider using the 15, and go with a 13 instead. Going with a 13/40 is going to be a very noticeable low end improvement. I probably would go any more the a 6 tooth difference then stock (and one tooth on the front counts as 3)

The biggest change I would go is a 13/41. You could go with a 13/38 (stock rear) and still have a slightly noticeable difference.

Here is a chart so you can see what I am talking about: -->> http://www.jtsprockets.com/fileadmin...tgearratio.pdf
