New here and buying a predator

Ok, I'm new here and also new to Polaris ATV's. I am looking at a 2003 predator and have a few concerns before I spend any money. First the jam nut on the rear axle is cracked. Is this a big deal to find a new one? What is the possibility of the axle and bearings being junk? The big problem I have found is that the oil level was next to nothing. The guy fired it up and it ran just fine. There were no visible leaks or smoke when it started. He was asking 1500 and I offered him 1000. Any opinions? All stock except slip on muffler. Has new plastics and new tires.

i personally think it would be a great deal! most predators kelly blue book for something close to 4 grand if i remember right so you could turn around and sell it!
i love my predator and have never had problems and i love riding it so it would be worth the money!

i just had mine apprasied today by a Polaris dealer. An 03 in good condition; private sell goes for about 1800, trade in is about 1000. No or little oil in it is NOT a good sign. As for the axle/bearings, pick up the rear and move the tires back and forth to see if theres any play. It should be tight. i just dumped over three Gs into mine and trying to sell it now for around 2k

I went to look at this same one and it needs rear bearings for sure!!!!!!!!! I waited a few days and found a super nice 03 predator with a lot of aftermarket stuff ready to ride for 1500. When I looked at this one they ran it for 10 mins almost wide open with no oil probably. So be careful!!! if you can get it cheap enough it would be a decent deal. I offered 1200 and he said no. Good luck and remember the 03's have no reverse...
