New here, my first Polaris! 03 predator

Hi guys, I picked up a 2003 Polaris Predator in rough cosmetic condition and not running this past weekend in a trade. The predator was thrown in on another trade because the guy really wanted the 250r I was getting rid of and he couldn't figure out the issue with the predator and was tired of it sitting in his garage (It was sitting for 2 years). The other bike I got was worth equal to the 250r, so the Predator was pretty much free and clear .

I pulled the head off Sunday and found out the intake valves were not closing all the way and it had number 192 & 195 shims in place. I was able to cut the shim's down a little as a quick check to see if the bike would run before I decided to put any money into it. Obviously I will be purchasing correct shims, I just couldn't help myself in seeing if I could get it to run. The valve seats and piston looked great. I also have to say this bike is a dream to put into time and work on! I put everything back together and the bike started instantly and ran very great considering the old gas I forgot to drain out. Looking back it probably would have ran by bump starting it considering the intake valves weren't open to terribly far. I learned a lot tearing it down though, so I'm glad I did.

I plan on fixing the valve clearances the correct way before running it any, and picking up the cosmetic parts the bike needs (rear plastics, headlights, tires, etc) and having a blast on it!

Here is a bad picture of it, I will have to get some more as I start getting stuff together for it. It does have a few extras; Big Gun exhaust, brand new coil and starter solenoid!

Congrats! I picked mine up last month at a garage sale. The vavles were bent and now I'm looking for cams. I guess the gears can clock on the cams and make the valves tag. I've been buying parts on ebay, got a nice used muffler for 1.29! I need some body parts too. Good luck!
