The voyager looks like a nice price of gear definitely, but I wanted the tach option because mine has a manuel gearbox, and the voyager is more money and more features than I need

The Voyager computer kits will come with the wheel sensor as they are more accurate to use. You do not have to use it though if you do not want to. You can just set the computer to read speed and distance off of GPS. The reason that Trail Tech recommend using the wheel sensor is because they are more accurate for the speed and distance readings. Imaging you are out riding and you are logging with the computer and at the end of the day you load up in the truck and head home. You didn't remember to shut the computer off from logging so it records all of the trip home and adds all of that mileage onto the ODO. The reliability of the GPS is all based off of signal and sometimes the unit will switch to different satellites and just because of the rotation of the Earth when it receives signal it can say you have traveled a certain amount of distance when in fact you have not moved at all. The Voyager does also have a tach feature but if you do not need the GPS mapping feature then the Vapor computer would be the way to go.
