I change my oil every 10-15 hrs. I guess it depends on riding conditions and how you treat your quad. 50 hrs is too long, 20 max.

guys guys ive been racing mx since 78 when reg oil was all there was and even then never killed my motor, and now with this great synthetic oil today come on..when was the last time anyonne blew their tranny/bottom end and the culprit was oil that had 20+ hours ride time......if your butin up your motor its your riding style or something else is truly wrong inside not because you put a couple extra weeks in between oil changes...ive read where the oil co's have done tests that compare the engine wear between motors with oil thats got 20000+ miles on it wo/being changed and the engines internals were virtually the same as one maintained regularly but they dont spread that type info its bad for the bottom line..corporate America is, as always, selling bs tales to us all and we keep buying it generation after generation
Someone please explain to me how the bottom end of my old 2stroke 250,and top needle bearings, are still intack after 9+ years running on 2oz of oil per gallon of gas??? now thats ultra diluted and its just fine!!!

I just crossed 101 hrs on AMSOIL 0W-40 and approximately 1500 miles and it taken me 2.5 yrs to get there. The same oil been in there all this time. Only 2100 miles in 5 yrs of use, some put that on it a week. LOL
I took an oil sample for analysis and awaiting the results. Oil looked amber in color. This in on a 2006 Honda Rincon which got the AMSOIL at about 25 miles. I have never had to top off the oil.
I would not be afraid to go 1 yr on AMSOIL as long as you are not submerging the ATV in water and have a completely 100% stock machine.
No two people treat an ATV the same as evidenced by some I meet on the trails who do everything they can to break it. My neighbor was extremely pop'd last year when his 16yo took his brand new Kawa and buried it to the seat in a big mud hole and caused all kinds of damage to the machine.

So should oil be amber in color or dark after 20 hrs of use is the question I want to know. Years ago I asked a Honda engineer this question due to the natural gas civic's oil being so clean after many miles of use compared to a regular gas engine. He told me that the difference is the fuel type obviously and in a normal gasoline engine if the oil is still amber in color after 5k of use then its not doing its job of capturing contaminents. In fact it should be dark in color. This doesn't mean its necessarily bad just that it's detergents are doing what they're intended to do. I'm no engineer in any way, but this guy I talked to seemed to know his stuff.

That would really depend on how well the engine is tuned, how good the air and oil filtration is.
Most engines produce some blow-by gases around the rings. These spent gases contain carbon, a by-product of combustion. The carbon is dissolved into the oil where it can be removed from the engine during oil changes. The engine oil is supposed to hold the contaminants in suspension and some will be removed by the oil filter. Oil filters cannot remove color though.
The color of the oil is not an indication its not doing it job. If every time you change the oil the oil turns blacking looking rather fast they I would say you engine is not running efficiently and they may be nothing that can be done due to the inherent design of the engine. These are the engines where its important to use high quality oils as cheaper oils will break a lot faster.

Sorry Miker I have to disagree with you a bit. My brand new F150 has only 5k on it and I just recently changed the oil. It was dark. So is my engine bad or is the oil doing its job of capturing contaminents? I'm pretty sure its tuned ok.
