I was going thru the wife's new Scrambler, greasing all the points that people never seem to do. While greasing the front prop shaft, I noticed the sub assembly shaft that exits the front front the transmission has a decent amount of movement to it. enough that if I move it around forcefully, the knuckle on the prop shaft can actually touch a case bolt. It has not been touching while running, but this seems bad too me.
The reason I am worried about this, is I fixed an explorer up for the wife last year, one the owner never did maintenance on. The bearing failed on the front shaft and let it walk all over the case, to the tune of $400 worth of parts.
I could not tell you the what the oil is like in the transmission, but plan on getting fresh on Monday and changing it out.
