2000 scrambler wheel hub question
ok so i have a 400 scrambler and the front wheel bearing went out...i thought. i took it all apart and found out the hub clutch ( #5 in the parts list...or detail A in the top right corner) was also destroyed. it was actually broken. i am replacing the wheel bearing also.
OEM Parts Polaris SCRAMBLER 400 (A00BG38CA) 2000 FRONT WHEEL - A00BG38CA - Cheap Cycle Parts
so my question is, do i need to have that hub clutch in there if i dont use the 4wd? the guy i bought it from broke an axle and decided they were too expensive to fix so he just ran it around in 2wd. the hub clutch is an expensive part and i really dont want to buy a part for my 4wd which i dont even use. so do i need have the hub clutch in the hub in order for me to ride it in 2wd?

Not 100% but I'd say YES! Cause there are bearings inside and out side of the Hilliard clutch system. W/out it the bearings would not stay where the need to be, just my opinon. Check out this maybe it will help?

ok one more question about this. in the video, i see 3 bearings being installed but in many parts kits ive found on sites like ebay list the front hub with 4 bearings and the hilliard clutch. so if there are 4 bearings, where does the 4th go? i dont get it

There is a 1st bearing in the inside of the strut. Video just shows him putting outside strut bearing #2 in. And then the hilliard clutch, one more bearing#3. And then he puts on hub and installs 4th bearing. You can get parts break down on line alot of sites, try Cheap Cycle Parts
