500 sputters at no load

Hi, my wife's scrambler has been sputtering or missing only at a cruise or no load. Seems to be worst at probably 10-15 MPH. I put a new plug in it tonight which didn't seem to help. Old plug looked great too.
I am picking up an inline fuel filter tomorrow along with a new air filter.
What would be my most likely problem. Runs great when you accelerate.

Thanks,

Mohntr - Missouri

You might have some trash in the carb. You might have to remove the carb and clean the jets. Before doing that I would add some Seafoam fuel treatment to the gas. It only takes 1 oz per gallon of gas.

Yes, I was hoping for a simpler solution. I will pick up a carb kit and dig in.

Thanks,

If I were you buy a can of carb cleaner and clean old parts. Remove jets and run a small wire thru passages. You might not need any parts. It might not be a bad idea to drain tank to make sure you don't have trash and water in it. Always use some sort of fuel stabilizer. Alot of fuel problems are caused by ethanol gas.

Yes, after removing the float bowl screws tap the bowl lightly with the handle of the screwdriver. Works like a charm. I have rebuilt over 10 carbs this month and have not bought a gasket yet.

Just an update, finally pulled the carb, cleaned it up and the bike runs great. No more sputtering.
Thanks.
