When they get worn enough, that they fall apart, it normally indicates that the cv joint will need to be replaced. They used to offer a rebuild kit for those but if the balls fell out, then the outer cage is too wore out to accept new bearings. As far as the output shaft goes, you can tap the leftover part off with a hammer,as there is just a retainer clip ring holding in on.

Sounds like a sweet deal for $700. How did it run in 2 wheel drive? Post up some pictures of the whole quad. And if you search theres a few threads heres on Scrambler Hubs. ie Front Hub still leaking
But here a starting point good luck...
Outer CV Joint Kit 500 Scrambler 97 98 99 00 01 02 03 | eBay
You will also need new strut and hub seal, and the armature plate.

i ordered the new out cvjoint off of ebay 44 shipped! the magnet wires for the hub were disconnected and dangling down. was able to route them up to where they are supposed to go and put new connectors on it and connect it up. put the armature plate up to hub and activated AWD and it activated properly. the plate does not appear to be magnatized itself and is not drawing up any metals..tried it with just brass though....JK
so sofar it appears im just waiting for the new cvjoint to come in..can someone still elaborate on what the two seals are. i found the hub seal on the parts blowup diagram but not sure what the strut seal is..the only other seal i see is the oring on the hub cover..also, anyone have any ideas about the transmission issue i stated in my previous post? THX!!! hope to become a regular here

Well I cant get a parts break down right now, but its a seal in the strut! It keeps the fluid from coming out the inside of the axel shaft side. Just undo ball joint, tie-rod end. Discontect hub wire, and remove top strut bolt. Take strut to work bench, look at inside, you will see seal. It looks just like hub seal, just a little smaller I think.
