lil intro new here. 56K Beware

hi im Joe, from Missouri,

My ride of choice is a 2002 Polaris Scrambler 500X model heavily modded with bolt ons, internals, and physical appearance.

Here are the things ive done to it

Purchased - May 2001 Brand New

Over view of stock Specs
500cc Single Piston 4-stroke
Stock horsepower; 42-45 Hp.
Dry weight stock 530 pounds

Special Features from Factory:

Black fenders, body, Special Decals and black/graphite vinyl seat cover.

Aluminum front Bumper

Cross-Drilled and Slotted Brake Rotors Front & Rear, with Braided Stainless Steel Brake lines.

Upgrades and modifications I have had installed or performed:

Exterior/ Physical Appearance modifications - Most all these done by myself.

1. Weight Reduction:

Trimmed/shaved Fenders ferrings

Removed All unnecessary guards, lighting, housings, containers, Foot plates, Foot operated brake pedal.

Replaced bulky Steel foot pads, with custom Diamond brite aluminum pieces, also replaced headlight bracket with custom Aluminum bracket.
Shortened CVT Shifter lever, so it doesn't protrude from atop the front right fender,

Replaced factory shifter knob with brushed aluminum one.
Shaved factory seat foam, reducing overall seat height by 50-70%. To lower riders' center of gravity and allowing for more aggressive riding postion
T6061 Moose one piece under-chassis skid plate.
Hot Seat performance low slung ALuminum Handle Bars, with grips. For better riding position

2. Suspension/Tire-Wheels/Brake Upgrades-Modifications:

Suspension: HOT SEAT PERFORMANCE - Light weight and 2.5 inch extended rear swing arm with Polished Nickel plated finish. "OUTERWEAR" shock socks covers both F-R

Tires/Wheels: Dirt Tire Set - ITP Polished Aluminum rims F&R, fitted with 20x11x10 MAXXIS-MX-RAZRS on the Rear, and 21x7x10 MAXXIS iRAZRS on the front
Sand Tire Set - ITP Polished Aluminum Lightweight rims F&R. KENDA 21x11x10 SAND GECKOS on Rear and KENDA 22x8x10 DUNE RUNNERS up Front.

Braking: Entire brake system redone, and customized. Removed rear brake foot lever assembly and relocated to right side handle bar using the factory Handle bar mounted Predator brake lever assembly, complete with S/S brake line.
Left hand Brake that originally applied braking force to Front & Rear simultaneously, was modified so that it only operated front braking system. Resulting in having all brake operations on the handle bars. the left brake lever for front braking, and right brake lever for rear braking.

3: Intake/Exhaust/Engine

Intake: TMX 42mm Carb. HPD Mass Air Intake airbox lid modification. K&N filter. OUTERWEAR filter sock

Exhaust: HPD Nickel plated Performance Exhaust

Engine: Cylinder Bored to equal 10cc's. WISECO high comp piston. WEB RACING CAM - Valve lift .335/.335, Duration 256/256 Degrees, Duration @ 0.050 230/230 degrees. Grind # 653.

4: Transmission/Drivetrain

Transmission: HPD Aggressive Clutch engagement kit, basically it allows the transmission to engage at 2500 rpm, rather than stock rpm of 1200 or so. and allows for easier smoother back shifting as well.

Drivetrain: SIDEWINDER Ti-Moly Initial/Final Sprocket set. 9-11/36 (Initial/Final tooth count). with 520 O-ring Chain. Came as set. HPD ctc, concentric chain tensioner.
RAD MFG. - One piece polished Aluminum axle housing with tapered roller bearings.

5: End results and outcomes of upgrades and modifications on paper

increased horsepower from mid 40's to about 60 horsepower

Increased torque, acceleration.

Crisper throttle response.

Increased airflow into engine, and increased capability of engine to expel exhaust.

Reduced weight by estimated 50-60 lbs. from 530 to about 470-480.

Decreased ground clearance by 3 inches, and seat height by 2-3 inches. increased overall stability of quad and center of gravity of quad and rider, for more reliable responsive and predictability overall especially when performing quick direction changes etc.
Ease of operation and increased versatility of braking system.
Improved bite(traction) overall with upgraded tires.

6: things still needed, or wanted to install

HPD Billet aluminum Racing thumb throttle
DURA-BLUE +4 inch width Axle,
AAEN +2/+1 front a-arms
Lightweight Steering stem
Steering Damper
Steering stem pivot bearing
and some stuff

All engine, carb, transmission work etc was installed professionally etc.

yup i think it came up to same amount i paid for the quad. I still want to sink more into her. thanks for the compliment i did the fender trimming by eye sight. with a dremel with a sanding drum on it and a sawzall for some of the long and initial cuts kinda like ice sculpting.

Nice job with this! It looks like it was intended to look that way out of the box, and getting 1.5 times the horses...sweet!

thanks guys, yeah she needs a bit of fine tuning, to get all the ponies to the ground. but shes been a good quad to me.

i was going for the out of the box look, as it is a 2wd, who needs mudflaps on a 2wd. lol.

the shop that modded it also has replaced about 6 swing arm pivot bolts, as i guess they arent made to jump at heights above 15ft.

i just wish the chassis was lower slung. just a tad.

anyone know where to get beefed up swing arm pivot bolts.
