97 Polaris scrambler 500 clunking noise in 4wd

I have a 97 scrambler 500 and I wraped my winch cable around a tree then hooked
It to my jetski to move it and I had it in 4wd and started to spin the tires in reverse
And there was nasty clunking noise up front ive noticed it before it only does it when
Its under a major load. What do you think could be causing this!

it's inside the front axle housing. it's what activates the 4wd after a 20% slip in the rear wheels. I would check the u joints in the driveline and the axles really well first tho
